About Ziprasidone Second-Generation Antipsychotic, benzisoxazole derivative, Atypical antipsychotic. Mechanism of Action of Ziprasidone The mechanism of action of Ziprasidone in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder is unknown. The proposed mechanism is that Ziprasidone acts by combination of partial agonist activity at Dopamine (D2) and Serotonin (5HT1A) receptor and a potent antagonist activity at 5HT2A receptor. Indications for Ziprasidone 1. Schizophrenia Interactions for Ziprasidone Levodopa and dopamin agonists : Ziprasidone may antagonise their effects. Antihypertensive agents : Ziprasidone may enhance the antihypertensive effect of some agents. CNS depressants : Caution should be used when using in combination with ziprasidone.
