Mechanism of Action of Sodium Cromoglycate This synthetic chromone derivative has several mechanism of action 1. It is a mast cell stabilizer 2. It inhibit chloride channels and inhibit the exaggerated neuronal reflexes triggered by stimulation of irritant receptors on sensory nerve endings (e.g. exercise-induced asthma) and release of preformed cytokines from several type of inflammatory cells (T-cell, Eosinophil) in allergen-induced asthma.3. It inhibit calcium influx of the cell 4.It inhibit the enzyme phosphodiesterase 5. It reduce alpha-adrenoreceptor density 6. It inhibit Ig-E dependant secretion of cells other than mast cells.
